How I photograph weddings

I am based in North Wales and have been photographing weddings since 2011. I keep things simple so you can have as much fun as possible. I’m a storyteller through images. It’s the moments that unfold naturally that I look for.

The images I take will reflect your wedding day, with no forced poses or cheese smiles. Hopefully you wont even notice me too much through the day.

I’m mindful to approach each wedding unobtrusively, this allows me to take photographs whilst you relax and enjoy your wedding day.

I want you, your friends and family to have a great time whilst I capture laughter and emotion.

Finding the story of the day is what matters! Emotion, expression, love and laughter.

Documentary photography style

There are many ways which describe my photographic style. A few of terms I use are documentary wedding photography, wedding reportage photography and wedding photojournalism.

Taking care of the moment and not intruding as a photographer is very important for me and ultimately my priority as a wedding photojournalist.

I’m by no means a traditional wedding photographer in the old sense of the word. I don’t work from lists of posed or prescribed images. This would take away from the Natural candid photography which is the main focus in my wedding images. However there is certainly room for a few relaxed group shots should you request them.

Editing style

The photographic images I curate have an intrinsic thread which flows through all of my wedding photography and my editing style. Whether my images are black and white or in colour, the heart of my editing style remains the same. I love to produce images that have contrast. Giving a timeless feel to the images.

I prefer to use natural light and throughout a wedding day I will predominantly shoot this way. There is the odd time I may need to use a touch of flash and I like to keep this to a minimum. For instance the bride and grooms first dance is a time when I may use my flash.

Clients reviews for Maurice Roberts Photography

We asked a lot of Maurice as we had such a big event with around 180 people and Maurice didn’t miss a moment! His documentary style of photography captured the magic as it happened and even gave us a few pleasant surprises of things we had missed.

Thanks Maurice – you did a great job ~ John and Lexi xxx

The image above is of a candid, happy moment of the groom along with his father and groomsmen having an enjoyable moment in the sunshine just before the wedding ceremony.  It’s this type of carefree, relaxed moment I especially love to capture in an non orchestrated manner.  I’m not imposing on their moment, I wouldn’t want to spoil it by intervening and asking for a posed image.

Another thing I should mention is how much I love photographing people. Above all I feel it’s an honor to photograph a couple on one of their happiest days. I believe it’s very special privilege.
